Affiliate Marketing for Newbies
July 29th, 2008If the idea of making money on-line appeals to you, but you have no idea of how to do so, affiliate marketing is probably your best place to start.
In short, affiliate marketing is earning commissions from the sales of products and services that were created by other people. There are many, many entrepreneurs and companies who use affiliate marketers as one of their top strategies for getting the word out to people who might be interested in what they have to sell.
Unlike sales in the off-line world, you don’t have to go door to door or make cold calls on the telephone to reach potential customers. In fact, there are a number of ways to earn affiliate commissions without ever having to actually talk to anyone at all!
So how do you sell products to people without talking to them, and perhaps not even e-mailing them? There are several ways, but first it helps to explain a little bit how affiliate marketing works.
You generally become a company’s affiliate by completing a short application. Once you sign on and are accepted as an affiliate, you are given an affiliate URL that is unique to you.
You then use your affiliate link to send customers to the company’s Web site. When those customers purchase something via your link, you earn your commission.
How do people find and click on your affiliate link? The most successful affiliate markets try one or a combination of the methods below:
1.Creating your own Web site on a subject that is somehow related to the products and/or services you are promoting. Say you’ve decided to promote a line of vitamins that pays an excellent commission. Develop a health-related site full of information on various vitamins, with your affiliate link or a banner that contains your link.
2.You can start a blog where you review products or services that you are promoting as an affiliate, and put your link there for readers who want more information.
3.You can place classified ads with your link in on-line newsletters or on other people’s sites that are related to what you are promoting.
4.Experienced affiliates may also develop short informative articles or product reviews that include their affiliate links, and post them in some of the article databases that can be easily found on the Web. Sometimes these articles are even picked up by other Web sites, which provides further exposure to the affiliate link.
Finding affiliate programs is as easy as typing “be an affiliate” or “affiliate program” into any search engine. By doing so, you will soon discover the millions of opportunities out there for you to make money on-line through affiliate marketing.
